Ole Solkjaer had his first big test as the caretaker boss of Manchester United this Sunday against Liverpool.

The match ended with a 0-0 draw but the Norwegian would have been biting his nails during the first half of this high profile clash.

Man United were already without Anthony Martial who was out with a muscle injury and Jesse Lingard was only fit enough to be named on the bench.

This meant the Reds had to line up almost exactly as they did vs Chelsea in the FA Cup.

But very early into the match, players like Juan Mata and Ander Herrera had to be taken off due to hamstring injuries forcing Jesse Lingard to be thrown into the match with more than sixty minuted to play.

The England international though did not last even until half time as he aggravated his injury and had to be replaced by Alexis Sanchez.

In the second half the Red Devils played really well to earn themselves a draw but speaking after the game, Solskjaer has delivered another injury news.

The caretaker boss has revealed that Marcus Rashford has injured his ankle during the clash vs Liverpool and will not likely play against Crystal Palace in midweek.

Marcus Rashford picked up a knock early into the match and he was maybe the first player who was supposed to be taken off.

But the forward battled through the pain and managed to play the full 90 minutes.

Now though it looks like, that grit and determination might have come at a cost.

If [Rashford] plays [against Palace] I’ll be maybe surprised,” Solskjaer said.

“I’ve never seen the like of this before, three hamstrings in the first half. Rashy obviously was kicked, he did his ankle straight away, we should have taken him off as well, but we didn’t did we.

“But we’ve got some good kids coming through, so we’ll have 11 players on the pitch on Wednesday night. And luckily we’ve got two days’ recovery.

The manager has put up a brave face and has hinted that a few youngsters might be named in the first XI vs Palace on Wednesday.

But can those young boys bring the same quality as the likes of Lingard and Marcus Rashford?
