Manchester United and Liverpool have been interested in signing Serie A sensation Mauro Icardi for some time now.

And it looks like the Argentine can finally be available for sale during the summer transfer window.

Mauro Icardi has been one of the best forwards in the Italian league during the past couple of seasons and this season too the 25-year-old has been in red hot form.

So far the centre-forward has played in 28 games this season for Inter Milan, scoring 15 goals and providing three assists.

But it looks like Mauro Icardi’s relationship with Inter has broken down over the negotiations of a new contract.

Recently Inter boss Luciano Spalletti said: “Mauro is evidently seeing his performance affected by some situations that have been going on recently.

“He needs to free himself from the talk that is around him. The directors agreed to start talking about the contract, so now they need to go there and conclude it.”

The forward’s current contract expires in 2021 as he went on to sign an extension in 2016 but given the amount of interest that Mauro Icardi has gathered, the club want to tie him down to a new deal.

And this is where all the problems lie.

Reports suggest that both the parties had cannot agree on terms of the new deal and now Inter Milan have chosen to strip him of the captaincy and handed over the armband to goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

This act surely means that there is trouble in paradise and the Serie A club might be finally planning to offload Mauro Icardi during the summer transfer window.

It is undoubtedly great news for the likes of Man United and Liverpool who have been keeping a close eye on the situation and if the forward doesn’t agree on a new contract by the end of the season, then they will surely make a move for him.

Having said that though, Mauro Icardi is one of the most sought after forwards in European football meaning he will not come cheap.

TransferMarkt values the 25-year-old at 100 million euros and this is the same value that Inter Milan might demand for Mauro Icardi if they choose to part ways with him.
