Mesut Ozil Arsenal team news

Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to BATE in the Europa League was yet another example as to just how miserable Mesut Ozil’s life at the Emirates has become.

Despite being fit the German did not even travel with the squad and this is a clear indication of things to come in the next months.

With each passing week, Unai Emery has been pushing Mesut Ozil to the corner and right now it looks like the playmaker cannot even make it to the matchday squad.

Mesut Ozil has not been getting starts in the Premier League for some time now but no one really expected the manager to drop him from Europe too.

This is turning out to be really embarrassing for the manager since the Spaniard is making no use of his highest-paid player.

And now speaking about Ozil’s situation, Paul Merson has jokingly claimed that the German might just be forced to retire at the end of the season.

“You play your best players and work around them,” Merson said.

“Ozil is Arsenal’s best player and he doesn’t play, it beats me.

“He must sit at home and watch Arsenal and think ‘how am I not getting into this team?’

“I don’t know if they are trying to push him into retirement, because he must sit there and think he might as well retire if he can’t get into Arsenal team.

“I don’t know if they are trying to push him into retirement, because he must sit there and think he might as well retire if he can’t get into Arsenal’s team.”

“Ozil is not so influential that you have to build a team around him, but he has to play because he is their best player.

“He’s not going to run around and put sliding tackles in, that is never going to happen, but he makes things happen.

“Arsenal have to stick with him, they are not good enough not to have him in the team.”

It’s no secret that Arsenal are planning to sell Mesut Ozil off during the summer but Unai Emery needs to make use of the playmaker’s talents as long as he is here at the club.

And as far as retirement goes, Mesut Ozil still has a lot of football left in him. It’s just that he needs the right manager to value his worth and understand his importance in the final third.
