Mesut Ozil Arsenal news
Mesut Ozil Arsenal

Mesut Ozil has fallen way down the pecking order under Unai Emery at Arsenal and so far the playmaker has played in only one Premier League game.

Last season there were indications that Mesut Ozil might not be on the good books of the manager but still, the German played in a number of matches.

This campaign though things have taken a turn for the worse and so far the player has played in only three matches across all competitions.

And one of those matches was this week in the Carabao Cup vs Liverpool.

The German got a rather rare start but failed to complete the full 90 minutes as he was replaced by Mateo Guendouzi in the 65th minute of the game.

Speaking after the match, a number of pundits raised questioned as to why the manager chose to take Mesut Ozil off especially since he was one of the better Arsenal players on the pitch.

But speaking after the loss, Unai Emery hinted that not only did the German had a good outing but he could also feature in the first XI when the Gunners take on Wolves on Saturday.

“We had decided beforehand [to take off Ozil],” said Emery.

“He worked well in 65 minutes. We are going to play on Saturday, and in my mind, there’s the possibility to use him again. Ozil played very well. He played a very good match.”

VERDICT:

The playmaker did have a good match vs Liverpool and Emery’s comments will surely give hope to Ozil’s fans. But there is a very slender chance that he will feature in the first XI on Saturday.

Mesut Ozil has seen very little game time this season and the last thing the manager would want to is to make him play in midfield against a side like Wolves.

At best, the 31-year-old will find a place on the bench in the weekend and might come on for around 15 to 20 minutes towards the end of the match.
