Mikel Arteta playing for Arsenal

Arsenal parted ways with Unai Emery last week and now they are on the hunt for a new manager to take charge of the club.

A number of names have been put forward as the potential replacement but some people think it will best if the management goes the Man United way and bring in a former Gunner.

And keeping in line with this logic, multiple reports have suggested that Mikel Arteta is one of the favourites to become the next Arsenal manager.

Mikel Arteta has played a lot of football for Arsenal and right now is the assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City – a position which he has held since 2016.

While the Gunners are mulling over this idea, Alan Smith has told Sky Sports, that Mikel Arteta will be an ideal replacement for Unai Emery at the Emirates but the North London outfit will have to make a quick decision regarding this one.

Here’s why.

“I would like them to be bold and go for a younger, more progressive manager,” Smith told Sky Sports News. “I’d like Mikel Arteta.

“I know a lot of Arsenal fans say, ‘He’s never been a manager. How could you do that? We need tried and trusted experience’.

“But I think he’s going to be a top manager quite shortly. If Arsenal don’t get him I think somebody else will. If he stays at Manchester City when Pep Guardiola steps down, he’ll be a stick on to takeover.

“From what you hear of his work at Man City, he takes so much of the training, the players respect him a great deal. I think he’s been responsible for improvements in Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling – so I think he is excellent.

“He’s got that Arsenal connection as well. He’d be my choice.”

And handing over the reigns of Man City to Mikel Arteta is something that Pep Guardiola has talked about in the past as well.

“I’m pretty sure (he could succeed me), yes. But he decided to stay – thanks – but everyone decides what they’ll do in the future. Sooner or later it’s going to happen,” Guardiola had said back in September.

“He’s a young young manager but he has experience already to handle big players and teams.”

While many people think Mikel Arteta will be the perfect replacement for Unai Emery but the Arsenal board aren’t surely not going to rush into any decision and most people believe they will only announce a manager sometime towards the start of the next year.
