Mo Salah has had a really busy season both with Liverpool and also with Egypt during the summer.

Egypt were tipped as one of the favourites to win the Africa Cup of Nations this time around but this weekend they were shockingly knocked out of the competition by South Africa.

This was certainly a huge blow for Mo Salah and his ambitions to guide his national side to glory. But in the end, this will be a huge boost for Liverpool and their plans.

The AFCON final is set to be played on the 20th of July and if Egypt had managed to reach the final then Mo Salah would certainly have missed the first few games for Liverpool next season.

Liverpool play Man City in the Community Shield on the 4th of next month and then just 10 days later they take on Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup.

So if Egypt had reached the AFCON final then Mo Salah would likely have been rested for both these matches.

Now though with the Pharaohs crashing out, Jurgen Klopp has decided to give the winger an extended break which means he will miss a number of pre-season games.

The Daily Star are reporting, “The Liverpool Echo claim the joint-Premier League Golden Boot winner will miss six pre-season friendlies and the whole of the Reds’ tour of the USA.

“That means he will be missing from games against: Tranmere Rovers and Bradford City in the UK, Borussia Dortmund, Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon in the USA, and Napoli in Edinburgh.”

But the good news for the Reds fans is that Mo Salah will be fully recovered before the 2019-20 season kicks off and now there is a huge chance that he will feature against both Manchester City as well as Chelsea.

While the inclusion of the Egyptian shouldn’t cause too many issues for Pep Guardiola but for newly appointed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, stopping Mo Salah could be his first major challenge since taking over.
