Liverpool winger Mo Salah has picked up an injury while on international duty and the Egyptian international is set to be out of action for around four weeks.

Mo Salah picked up a muscle injury while playing in the Africa Cup of Nations fixture against Ghana and Liverpool have confirmed that the right-winger will return to England this week to continue his rehab.

Initially, it was claimed that the injury was not serious but now according to his agent Ramy Abbas Issa, Salah could be out for a month.

Issa has said(h/t Fotmob): “Mohamed’s injury is more serious than first thought and he will be out for 21-28 days, and not two games.

“His best chance at participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team as soon as he is fit.”

If Mo Salah is really out for one month then it is going to be a major blow for Liverpool because they are set to face some really strong opponents in the next few matchweeks.

Amongst others, the Anfield outfit will face London sides Chelsea and Arsenal in the first week of February and the Egyptian international is going to be absent for both these matches. If the injury timeline is right then Mo Salah will miss six games for Liverpool but should return in time before they face Man City in March.

As far as a replacement is concerned, apart from Salah, Jurgen Klopp does not have any other natural right-wingers which means either Cody Gakpo or Diogo Jota will have to play out of position for the next couple of matches.

In the 4-0 win over Bournemouth, it was Luis Diaz who played out on the right with Nunez operating on the left but Diaz did not have the greatest of games out on that wing so Klopp will most certainly bring him back to his natural position. Jota scored two and assisted one goal vs the Cherries so he will be the one who will get the nod to replace Mo Salah out wide.
