Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny is expected to move out of the club this summer after he had a falling out with the management and it looks like Nacho Monreal could take his place.

Koscielny was the captain at the club last season and his exit means, Unai Emery will now have to name an heir to the captain’s armband very soon.

But instead of going with the single traditional captaincy method, the Gunners boss had recently revealed that he is planning to have three to five captains in his squad.

“We spoke a little about this and last year we had Laurent, Petr Cech and Ramsey,” said Unai according to the club’s official website.

“At the moment, Koscielny has a contract with us but I think they are going to speak, the club and him, about whether he continues or not.

“We have players with the capacity [to be captains]. One is Granit. Last year also he played so much as a captain and was like a captain in the dressing room.

“We also have Mesut and Nacho, and also other players, they can take this position also. I want from three to five captains in the team.”

And now speaking to the press, Nacho Monreal has revealed that he will be more than happy to become the next captain at the club.

“To be one of the captains makes me happy and makes me feel like I have more responsibility,” he said.

“I have been playing for Arsenal for almost seven years and I think step by step I am feeling more important inside the group, and I am trying to help the younger players because a long time ago I was one of them!

“Now it is my moment to teach them and to give some advice to them. I want to feel important and to feel involved in the group.”

Off the pitch, Arsenal can have as many captains as they want but on the pitch, there can be only one man who gets to wear the captain’s armband.

And we will have to wait and see if that person is Nacho Monreal since some rumours have suggested that centre-back Rob Holding could be Unai Emery’s first choice after the defender had an impressive first half of the season before getting injured.
