Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic playing for Man United

Nemanja Matic has been a stellar performer for Manchester United in the midfield area during the past couple of months especially in the absence of Pogba and Scott McTominay.

But as per reports, the manager had actually made plans for him to leave the club in January.

With McTominay playing regularly alongside Fred during the first half of the season, it was almost certain that Nemanja Matic would be leaving the club last month.

He had said at the start of January, as quoted: “I don’t know what to say. I have a contract for another six months, we’ll see in January what’s going to happen.

“Will I extend the contract or try to find something else?

“United have some option to extend my contract, but we will see if the plans of the club match my plans. I couldn’t say anything more because I don’t really know either.”

But then McTominay picked up a long-term injury meaning Solskjaer actually had to scrap the plan of letting Matic leave the club.

Now though as per reports, the Serbian was actually offered to AC Milan during the January transfer window but Zvone Boban and Paolo Maldini preferred not to sign him.

Nemanja Matic is out of contract at Man United during the summer and by the looks of it, Solskjaer will surely not be eager to renew his contract at the club.

This would mean the midfielder is now free to sign a pre-contract with a new club and then move out at the end of the season as a free agent.
