Newcastle United have been marked as favourites to sign Divock Origi from Liverpool in the next couple of days but Magpies manager Rafa Benitez might just have something to worry about.

Origi joined Liverpool from French side Lille but the 23-year-old is yet to carve out a niche for himself in the first eleven.

During the 2016-17 season, Origi managed to score 7 goals in 34 Premier League games for the Reds and immediately the Reds new that they might have invested in the wrong player.

His poor form during the 16-17 season prompted Jurgen Klopp to loan him out to Wolfsburg for the whole of last season but in Germany too Origi failed to show his potential.

And now that he has returned to Anfield, Klopp is planning to send him out on yet another loan spell in order to get some first-team action but as stated above Newcastle United might not be the only team who are eyeing a move for the 23-year-old.

A couple of reports have been claiming that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has suddenly shown an interest in the centre-forward and he might just make a move for Origi during the coming few days.

We still do not know for sure if this interest from the Gers has any concrete backing but now that Eduardo Herrera has moved out of Rangers, Gerrard only has Alfredo Morelos and new signing Umar Sadiq as his attacking options.

So it wouldn’t be an absolute shocker if Rangers contact Liverpool in order to bring Origi to Ibrox.

Rafa Benitez also is badly in need of a striker as his centre-forward Aleksandar Mitrovic is expected to join Fulham before the start of the new season.

But the reports of Rangers showing interest getting Origi on loan are still a bit vague meaning Newcastle United, for now, remain in the driver’s seat.
