Laurent Koscielny is currently on the bad books of the club after refusing to travel with the squad to the US which means, Unai Emery is set to name a new Arsenal captain.

While a number of names have come up as the candidate for the captain’s armband and recently the manager had hinted that a number of players are in the run-in to become the next leader of the squad.

“I want one English player in these five captains,” Emery told a media conference(as reported by ESPN).

“Last year [Granit] Xhaka, Mesut [Ozil] and Nacho [Monreal] were working as captains. But after Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech left — and possibly Laurent Koscielny — I will want more.

“An English player who grew up in our academy can understand the English spirit and Arsenal values. These are the qualities and more [we want].

“We are really happy with his [Holding’s] progress. We need his performances as a centre back. [Before] he had his injury he was really playing with big performances.”

But now according to Granit Xhaka, the whole squad is in the dark and they are yet to find out who the next Arsenal captain will be for the upcoming season.

‘Nobody has spoken about the captain’s armband,’ the Swiss said.

‘The coach hasn’t decided but if I have the armband, of course, I will be happy.

‘It’s something special but in the end, we have to all be captains on the pitch and outside out of the pitch because we need everyone.’

While most pundits feel that Rob Holding is the favourite to become the next Arsenal captain but as per some former players, the defender is not the right back to be handed the responsibility.
