Newcastle United have reportedly made Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard their top summer target but Chris Sutton believes the Magpies might fail to sign him.

Odsonne Edouard has been in top form this season scoring 27 goals and providing 19 assists in just 45 games for the Bhoys and there’s a massive report that the player could be on his way to the English Premier League.

But Chris Sutton feels that this halt in football right now might affect the upcoming transfer window resulting in Odsonne Edouard deciding to stay back in Scotland for one more season.

Sutton wrote in his column: “Edouard was already going to attract a pile of suitors to the front door of Celtic Park in the summer.

“If the transfer window is extended until the end of the year it could cause a longer period of concern and worry for the Scottish champions should they want to hold on to their French talisman.

“Britain will come under the same rules and timings of return so moves back and forth across the border would not be affected nearly as much as going overseas. Same would apply for France and Belgium or Portugal and Spain.

“On one hand the potential extension to the transfer window does initially seem as though it is going to keep exit doors open to players for a lot longer than we might have expected.

“Yet the other side of the coin is there is a very good chance of utter chaos and confusion clouding the transfer market and making it a whole lot easier just to sit tight for a spell and wait for the summer of 2021.

“Which, in the case of Edouard, would spell some encouraging news for Celtic fans hoping he hangs around to try to make history when the time eventually comes.”

Newcastle United will surely try their level best to sign the forward before the next season begins but right now this coronavirus pandemic has put a spanner in the transfer works of almost all the clubs and it’s safe to say we can get a clearer picture only when this chaos is over.
