Barcelona are planning to sign Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud on a short-term deal as a replacement to Suarez – as per reports.

Frank Lampard has made it clear that Chelsea are planning to offload Giroud this month with Inter Milan looking like the possible destination.

The manager had said“There’s not much more to say on Olivier Giroud. We know there have been discussions and the idea that he may move on but it needs to be right for everyone and at this point, it isn’t yet.”

But now though, fresh reports have suggested that Inter are holding talks with Napoli over the signing of Fernando Llorente which could put the Olivier Giroud transfer in jeopardy.

And amongst all this, it looks like new Barcelona boss Quique Setien is looking to bring in Olivier Giroud before the transfer window shuts down.

Luis Suarez has undergone knee surgery which is expected to keep him out of action for a couple of months and this is the main reason why Setien is looking at new striking options.

If this news is indeed true then Arsenal will surely breathe a sigh of relief since earlier this week some reports had suggested that Barcelona are planning to make a move for Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang as a replacement for Suarez.

This wasn’t the first time that the Gabon international had been linked with Barcelona and some people felt that if the interest is strong enough then Auba could very well make the switch in the hopes of winning silverware.

Now though it seems like Barca have scrapped the move for the Arsenal man and are planning to sign Olivier Giroud who himself wants to move out of Chelsea in search of more playing time.

The report suggests that Barca want to sign the Frenchman on a short-term deal meaning at best Giroud will only get a six-month deal with the option to extend.
