Chelsea have reportedly made contact PSG over a loan deal for Edinson Cavani and former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino thinks it is a strange call from Lampard especially when he has Olivier Giroud.

Olivier Giroud has so far played only 191 minutes of football in the Premier League across 5 matches and the manager has made it clear that the talks are ongoing regarding the players heading out of Stamford Bridge. And as per reports, it looks like the Frenchman will be heading to Inter Milan.

And according to Cascarino, Lampard should have atleast given Giroud a proper chance instead of shunning him out so quickly.

‘If you can get him, he’s available and he can come at the right price, yes,’ Cascarino told talkSPORT as quoted by The Metro.

‘Cavani has scored unbelievable goals for PSG, he always gets chances, every time I’ve watched him he gets chances to score. You don’t want to bring in people who are going to unsettle it slightly, but, if it works for the club, yes it’s a really good deal.

‘What we’re seeing in this market is that loan deals are more realistic than buying players at the moment.’

‘It would be a gamble [to sign Cavani]. I think they can just move it around slightly.

‘I’ve never quite understood why [Olivier] Giroud has been cast aside so quickly. He did brilliantly for Arsenal and he came to Chelsea, and he wasn’t the number one choice but then became the number one choice – and he leads the line for France.

‘I think it’s strange that he’s been pushed aside.

‘Tammy did really well and has become the number one, but he’s now had the dip every young player has, and Chelsea should have always prepared for that.’

Olivier Giroud has scored 39 senior goals for France and for many seasons he had been carrying the goal-scoring burden for Arsenal so clearly the player is not one without talent.

But it looks like Frank Lampard has clearly made up his mind that both Giroud and Batshuayi are not good enough for his team which is why he’s rarely used two strikers upfront – not even when Chelsea desperately needed goals.

Also, Olivier Giroud is 33-year-old which puts him in the wrong age bracket as far as the Blues are concerned but clearly Lampard will not be making things any easier by signing Cavani who is 32.
