Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has made it clear that Olivier Giroud will not be leaving the club during the summer transfer window.
Yes, as weird as it may sound, the player will remain a part of the club for the 2019-20 season and this decision has been taken due to the transfer embargo slapped on the Blues.
Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal in January of 2018 and the player is out of contract at the end of the season.
The contract does have an option to extend Giroud’s stay at Stamford Bridge for one more year, but many experts believed, the Blues will be letting him leave.
Now though, Sarri has claimed that he has already set the ball rolling in order to trigger the extension.
‘He [Giroud] is sure [to stay] because the club has an option for another year, another season,’ said Sarri.
‘I spoke to the club two days ago and we agreed to exercise the option. So, he will remain.’
The London outfit would be unable to sign players for the next two transfer windows meaning Sarri will not have the luxury of bringing in new players.
Chelsea have appealed against the ban but if rumours are to be believed then FIFA will not likely freeze the decision which means Olivier Giroud is set to play a big role for the next season.
The Frenchman though had claimed recently that he is open to leaving the club and move somewhere where he is guaranteed regular playing time.
If Sarri has asked to trigger the extension then surely the manager has made plans to use Olivier Giroud extensively next season while keeping Gonzalo Higuain his number one striker.
