Rangers picked up a 3-1 win over Hearts which means Steven Gerrard’s side are now eight points away from arch-rivals Celtic having played one game more.

The Teddy Bears obviously have given up hope on winning the Premiership this season but if the win vs Hearts is anything to go by then surely the fans will have a lot to look forward to next campaign.

Rangers scored three goals courtesy Jermaine Defoe, Ryan Jack and Nikola Katic but Steven Gerrard still feels that his team are lacking the consistency.

“Coming away to a tough place, which we mentioned prior to the game, we stood up to Hearts in every department,” Gerrard told Sky Sports after the match(as reported).

“When our chances came, which we knew they would, we played some excellent football and executed our good play really well.

“I think that’s when we’re at our best when we’re aggressive in and out of possession. We knew that Hearts would give us the ball back in certain areas of the pitch today, then it was down to us to show the quality that we needed to score goals.

“We could have scored another couple today, I’m disappointed not to get a clean sheet.

“I thought they caused us one of two problems down our left side in the second half which we need to improve on, but in the main, it’s a really strong away performance.

“I think we owe it to our supporters to put in four strong performances from now until the end. The support today was excellent.

“They came in their numbers today again and we gave them a performance to be proud of and that’s the message to the supporters.

“We’ve underachieved at certain times this season and we’ve done well at times but the fans are always out in force.

“Consistency has obviously been a word that’s come up a lot, at times we’ve taken three or four steps forward and then our performance hasn’t been good enough.

“We’ll have to find another performance to keep this run going. I think when we become capable of stringing a lot of wins together that’s when we’ll challenge for certain things.

“The system’s been working really well, the players are enjoying it,

“That doesn’t mean we’re going to play it from now until the end of the season, different personnel are coming back so we’ll do what we need to do.

“But I think the majority of players today have performed well enough to keep the shirt and that’s what I asked for before the game.”
