According to Fichajes, Premier League side Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.

The French international has one more year left on his current contract with Barcelona and in recent weeks, he has been linked with a move to PSG.

However, Ousmane Dembele was quick to squash these rumours and in an interview with Marca, he has made it clear that there have been no talks with the French giants over a possible summer move.

He has said: “I don’t know why there was so much talk of PSG. It must be because it’s a French team, but there wasn’t nor is there currently anything with them.”

Now, in a fresh twist, Erik ten Hag seems to be interested in the 26-year-old as he looks to strengthen his attacking options before the next season. Dembele’s time at Barcelona has been riddled with injuries plus was also temporarily sidelined from the squad last season but despite all these issues, the club have offered him a two-year contract extension which means Manchester United won’t have an easy road in this transfer race.

Is it sensible for Man United to try and sign Ousmane Dembele?

Last season, he scored five and assisted seven goals in 25 league appearances for Barcelona and we can understand why Ten Hag has his eyes on him.

Right now, Antony is the only genuine right-winger in the United squad and the Brazilian had a very average season this time around. Man United cannot afford to play in the Champions League with just one right-winger which is why their manager is keen to strengthen that position.

This is obviously a calculated decision but we have serious doubts about their interest in Ousmane Dembele because the World Cup winner has spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.

He has been a Barcelona player since 2017 but to date, he’s played only 186 games for the club. This means in six seasons, the winger has played an average of just 31 games per campaign and this is really poor given the fact that Barca had spent €135 million to sign him from BVB.

Ousmane Dembele has been massively injury prone since moving to Spain and since the summer of 2017, the 26-year-old has sustained as many as 14 injury setbacks.

Because he has just one year left on his contract, Man United will be able to land him for around €45-50 million but we seriously think, Ten Hag will be better off spending that money on another winger, even if he is an upcoming talent.

Ousmane Dembele will obviously come with European experience but if he continues to have the same ill fate regarding injuries then Manchester United will be a complete mess.
