Liverpool are currently sitting on top of the Premier League table – two points clear of defending champions Manchester City.

And to be very honest, this has come as a shock for many experts.

Before the 2018-19 season began, most pundits had claimed that while Liverpool would fight it out of the title but would crumble under the pressure.

But with five matches to go this season, it looks like the Anfield outfit might very well end their trophy drought.

And speaking about this fine run of Paul Merson has credited the Reds for keeping the pressure on.

He told Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday: “When you watch Liverpool play and then you watch Man City play, one team blows teams away, the other is struggling at the minute to win.

“I can’t talk highly enough, to go the whole season so far, to go toe to toe with a phenomenal football club who can rest players. (Leaving out four stars) Liverpool couldn’t do that in their wildest dreams and they’ve got to do that for 38 games.

“It’s phenomenal. Man City will have to win it the hard way. If Man City go on to win it now you’ll think: ‘You’re good. You’re better than what we think you really are.’”

The Reds still have five games to play in the league and on paper each and every one of them should be easy three-pointers.

But Man City, on the other hand, have to play Spurs as well as Man United, and Liverpool are expecting Pep Guardiola’s men to drop points in atleast one of these games.
