Antonio Valencia is the current club captain at Man United but the Ecuadorian is set to leave the club at the end of the season.
Valencia has hardly played for the club this season and a couple of months ago the right-back revealed that he would be moving out of Old Trafford as a free agent during the summer transfer window.
And with him leaving, Solskjaer and co have to decide on the next player who would be given the captain’s responsibility.
In normal circumstances, the senior most pro is given the said duties which in this case would be Ashley Young after the player signed a new contract with the club.
But now reports are claiming that Solskjaer wants to hand the captain’ armband to Paul Pogba in a bid to keep him at the club beyond the summer.
Paul Pogba has been tipped to leave Man United during the summer with Real Madrid wanting to sign him but Solskjaer has categorically made it clear that the Frenchman is not for sale.
Still, though rumours refuse to die down and many pundits believe the World Cup winner might very well try and force a way out of the club especially if Man United fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Solskjaer believes the captain’s armband is a big responsibility which if handed to Paul Pogba might make it believe that he is an integral part of the squad.
But the first thing that the player has to do is perform consistently.
Under Ole, Paul Pogba was in tremendous form for the first couple of games but since then his aura around the pitch seems to have faded away.
Against Barcelona in the first leg, the midfielder was pretty average and all eyes will be on his during the second leg at Camp Nou this Tuesday.
If Paul Pogba can help Man United reach the semi-finals by beating Barcelona in the second leg that it will be more or less certain that the Frenchman will be wearing the captain’s armband next season.
