England youngster Phil Foden has been called up to the England U21 squad during the international break and it is not long before the Man City wonderkid gets his first senior call-up.

Many pundits have been pushing Gareth Southgate to give Phil Foden a chance in the senior team and the manager has assured the youngster’s time will come pretty soon.

Phil Foden is often referred to as the next Andres Iniesta since he has the same level of authority over games but the Man City player wants to emulate someone else.

Foden has said that he wants to follow in the footsteps of his fellow City teammate David Silva.

Talking about his inspiration in football, Phil Foden said:

“David Silva, because I’ve seen him come through at City.

“He’s been a great player for us and I’ve really enjoyed watching him.”

The 18-year-old has also said that he wishes to play like David Silva.

“Yeah, definitely.

“I watch him closely, he’s a great player and someone I want to be like in the future.

“Probably him and Lionel Messi. I’m my own player, but they are great players.

“They have great characters, the show that on the pitch, and impress me every time they play.”

Phil Foden is yet to become a regular for Manchester City under Pep Guardiola but the Spanish manager is pretty sure that the 18-year-old will be a significant part as the season rolls along.

The youngster recently brought a multi-million-pound house for his parents in Manchester.
