Referees have a really tough job in football but sometimes they make certain decisions which leave everyone baffles.

And such was the case with Man City forward Raheem Sterling who pulled out an acting performance that would put every major Hollywood actors to shame.

Man City ran riot against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League beating them 6-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite an emphatic performance, Raheem Sterling seems to have grabbed all the headline after he received a penalty decision.

Here’s how the incident unfolded:

Raheem Sterling ran into the box getting the better of Shakhtar’s Mykola Matviyenko and was just about to take a shot when his studs jabbed into the pitch and he stumbled over.

In a normal scenario, this would have been a no-fuss incident but not in this case as the referee Viktor Kassai chose to award a penalty to Man City despite Matvityenko being miles away from Sterling.

Here’s the video:

After the penalty was awarded, Raheem Sterling did nothing to correct the referee especially since the Shakhtar player made absolutely no contact with him.

The forward did apologize to the referee after the match, saying:

“I went to chip the ball and don’t know what happened. I didn’t feel contact. I scuffed the ball. Apologies to the ref,”

But that has done very little to win over the fans as most of them have taken to mocking Raheem Sterling and his hilarious trip over.
