The Gers have brought in Jermain Defoe from AFC Bournemouth on an 18-month loan spell.

This signing means the Rangers boss can finally manage to play two strikers up front but this arrangement could only last until the end of the season.

Much like last season, Alfredo Morelos has been in fine form this campaign too and many fans fear that the Colombian will be persuaded out of Ibrox by a big club during the summer transfer window.

And it looks like Steven Gerrard is already preparing for the worst case scenario.

Recent reports suggest that the manager had sent scouts to watch Charlton Athletic forward Karlan Grant.

Gerrard was himself planning to go and watch Grant in action during Charlton’s game vs Accrington Stanley.

The manager had to eventually scrap the plan but it is now being reported that he did send someone else to watch Karlan Grant in action.

The 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season meaning he will be a free agent during the summer.

And Rangers are planning to swoop him up in a pre-contract deal this month itself.

The Teddy Bears have already signed pre-contract deals with Jordan Jones and Glen Kamara and they want to make Karlan Grant their third such signing.

Many pundits feel that Rangers are planning to bring in the forward as a long-term replacement for Alfredo Morelos.

Grant has played 28 games for Charlton Athletic this season – scoring 14 goals and Steven Gerrard feels the young striker can fill in the big boots of Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers are yet to make a move for the 21-year-old striker but if rumours are to be believed then the Ibrox outfit will make contact with Charlton Athletic sometime next week.
