Since Rangers FC appointed Steven Gerrard as their new manager earlier on in the summer the former Liverpool midfielder has made nine signings for the Ibrox outfit.

The new boss has made sure that he brings in players for every department of the team and now Gerrard’s next big focus will be to bring in a new striker before the start of the new season.

The Gers have confirmed that Mexico international Eduardo Herrera will be moving back to his home country after a failed season in Scotland which means that Steven Gerrard now has only Alfredo Morelos and new signing Umar Sadiq up front.

Multiple reports have suggested that the Light Blues are in the hunt for a new striker before the 2018-19 season which might see Gerrard give a call to Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez.

The Rangers manager has worked under Benitez during their time at Liverpool and now it seems that Gerrard will be asking the Magpies manager to loan him a striker for the next season.

If reports are to be believed then Gerrard is planning to ask Rafa Benitez for the services of their forward Ivan Toney.

Toney joined Newcastle United from Northampton Town in 2015 but he has managed to play just two games for the Magpies during his time at the club.

The 22-year-old has moved around the country in various loan spells – his last spell being at League One side Scunthorpe United.

And it was here at Scunthorpe that Ivan Toney made a statement – scoring 8 goals in 18 appearances which have caught the attention of Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.

Reports suggest that Newcastle United have told Ivan Toney that he can leave the club during the summer and if Rafa and Gerrard can to an agreement then the forward’s next destination could be Glasgow.

Newcastle are said to be looking at Liverpool forward Divock Origi and the Magpies are pretty confident that they will be able to secure the services of Origi in a one-year loan deal.

So if Rafa Benitez can sign Origi from Liverpool then he should not have any problems in letting Ivan Toney move to Rangers FC.
