Rangers FC’s new manager Steven Gerrard seems to be the best thing that has happened to the club in some time now as everything the former Liverpool player touches is turning into gold.
A couple of weeks back rumours had surfaced that the Gers were in the hunt for Mali international Lassana Coulibaly.
But those rumours were quickly squandered as reports started claiming that Ligue 2 side FC Metz had leapfrogged over Rangers and had convinced Coulibaly to join them.
This came as a big setback to Gerrard as the Ibrox outfit were said to be pretty close to signing the midfielder.
Now though in a weird turn of events, Rangers seem to be back in contention as Lassana Coulibaly has reportedly changed his mind.
Coulibaly currently plays for Angers in the Ligue 1 and the midfielder feels that moving to Ligue 2 will be a set down for him.
The 22-year-old now wants to play in a top division which has immediately put the Light Blues in the driving seat.
If Gerrard does manage to sign Lassana Coulibaly then the Mali international will be a perfect addition to his squad given the player can play a perfect defensive screen infront of the centre-backs.
The midfielder is not particularly known for his passing abilities and has managed to score only one goal during the whole of last season. But given his defensive attributes, he can be a perfect asset for Gerrard in scenarios when his team wants to hold on to a lead.
Now the only obstacle standing between the Rangers and the Lassana Coulibaly deal is the granting of a UK work permit for the midfielder.
