Rangers manager Steven Gerrard failed to pick up his first silverware at the club after Celtic beat them 1-0 in the Scottish League Cup final.

The Gers went down to a solitary goal from Christopher Jullien but replays showed the Celtic man was offside meaning the goal shouldn’t have stood.

But since the Scottish league does not use VAR, there was no way to overturn the decision meaning Celtic, in the end, were able to lift the trophy at the peril of their arch-rivals.

And speaking after the match, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard talked about the possibility of using VAR in Scotland despite not being a fan of the same.

“I think it [VAR] has taken something away from the game, so I’d be a liar if I said I’m 100% in favour of it,” said Gerrard.

“But one thing I do know is the officials up here do need some support and help. Because there are too many things, not just for our club but across the board, that they may be miss and need a bit of support on.

“We conceded from a set-piece, which we shouldn’t have given away. Once you concede it, you have to defend it better. There were three Celtic players standing in offside positions but unfortunately, we play in a country where there is no VAR.

“We still have to defend it better but, that aside, we were outstanding. We created all the best chances.”

Rangers dominated most of the game and should have equalised from a second-half penalty after Jeremie Frimpong was sent off for bringing down Alfredo Morelos.

Celtic though very clearly oozed maturity after going down to 10 men and goalkeeper Fraser Forster was one of the heroes of the match pulling out a string of saves.
