Steven Gerrard wants Filip Helander at Aston Villa

Rangers finished second in the Premiership last season as arch-rivals Celtic ran away with the title but things could be different this season.

Steven Gerrard identified the problematic areas last season and this summer he has made some pretty fine in order to solve those issues.

The manager has brought in players for almost every area of the pitch and most experts feel that Rangers are looking a more cohesive unit this time around.

But according to Rangers legend Kris Boyd, Gerrard need one more signing in order to ensure to have a balanced squad for the 2019-20 season.

As per Boyd, the club will need to bring in a new left-back who can backup for Borna Barisic.

“I’ve been pretty vocal…Rangers need a left-back,” Boyd said on Sky Sports’ The Debate.

“You’ve got Borna Barisic – Steven Gerrard doesn’t seem to trust him.

“He plays some games, he’s out for others. Andy Halliday…it’s unfair for him to play there every week. Jon Flanagan’s a right-footed player playing at left-back.

“If I were spending any more money [at Rangers], I’d have looked to get a left-back in.”

Last season Borna Barisic managed to play in only 15 Premiership games for Rangers as he missed a large chunk of the season due to injuries.

But the former Osijek player has clearly not turned out to be what Gerrard had hoped and Boyd has rightly pointed out that the manager needs to bring in a new player for the left-back area.

While the Rangers manager has said that more players might be arriving before the summer transfer window, we will have to wait and see if one of those is a new left-back.
