Rangers FC manager Steven Gerrard is reportedly keen to sign Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson during the upcoming transfer window.

The youngster joined Aberdeen from Hamilton in 2018 and this season he has played in 28 Premiership games for the club before the league got suspended.

And recently, former Gers captain and Lewis’ uncle, Barry Ferguson urged Rangers to sign the 20-year-old.

He said, as per the Scottish Sun: “Every day my son speaks to Lewis on WhatsApp and he says there has been no contact from Rangers.

“But I think he would be a very good signing for them. He has still got a bit to go in terms of reaching the top level, but he has all the attributes.

“Aberdeen have done the right thing. Lewis had a great first season last year, and they signed him up on a four-year deal to get top money for him. Whoever buys Lewis now will have to pay top dollar.”

Now according to Darren Bent, Lewis Ferguson will not require much convincing to do in order to lure him to Ibrox during the summer.

Bent told Football Insider: “It’s a completely different kettle of fish, Celtic and Rangers are massive, completely the two biggest things that are up there so it helps if someone you’re signing knows the culture, the club, what it takes to succeed.

“We’ve seen players go to big clubs – not just Celtic and Rangers – but big clubs in the Premier League and can’t handle it, they just can’t cope.

“He’s the nephew of [Barry] Ferguson, son of Derek, so he’ll know that club better than anyone and that’s a big, big positive for them. There’s no convincing they’ve got to do there, they haven’t got to try nurture someone – he’s seen his dad and Barry do it, so the task becomes easier.”

Lewis Ferguson signed a contract extension last year meaning he still has four years left on his current deal. And as per TransferMarkt, the central midfielder is valued at €1.5 million should not be a big cause of concern for the Gers.
