Rangers vs Leipzig
Ibrox Stadium Rangers

The Rangers vs Feyenoord fixture in the Europa League will be the biggest show in Glasgow this Thursday more so since Celtic will be playing away from home on the very same night.

But if recent developments are to be believed then this clash could turn fiery and messy even before the game gets underway.

According to The Scottish Sun, the away fans are set to march in Glasgow before the Rangers vs Feyenoord clash begins and unfortunately the Dutch supporters are not exactly known for their politeness.

The report states: “FEYENOORD fans are set to march through the streets of Glasgow ahead of their clash with Rangers.

“Local media in Holland report that the Dutch fans will congregate at George Square during the day before making their way to Ibrox in time for kick-off.”

Some Dutch reports also claim the march will not be a very pleasant one since the Feyenoord fans are not too happy with the over the overpriced tickets – the biggest reason why the club have not been able to sell almost 1200 tickets for the Rangers vs Feyenoord match.

And given that the Feyenoord fans have had a history of clashes and riots, the Glasgow authorities are taking extra precaution in order to ensure that everything remains peaceful during the match.

Superintendent Craig Smith, who will lead the policing operation for the match, said(as reported): “Our extensive planning is well-underway and when Rangers and Feyenoord meet in the Europa League in Glasgow there will be a comprehensive policing plan in place.

“We have been working closely with both clubs and others, such as British Transport Police, to ensure everyone who travels to the match, including those who want to walk to Ibrox Stadium, can do so safely and watch the match in a secure environment.”

Around 1400 Dutch fans are expected to travel to Scotland meaning there will a very significant gathering at George Square before the match and as per some rumours, a couple of hundred Rangers fans might also look to raise choruses before the match.

So clearly the authorities need to ensure that the tensions between the two sections of the fans does not excalate and trickle inside the stadium.
