Tottenham Hotspur lost their second Champions League group stage game against Barcelona 4-2 this Tuesday.

Or as Mauricio Pochettino described it – his team lost to the genius of Lionel Messi.

The little Argentine was on fire against Spurs – scoring a brace and having a significant part to play in the other two goals.

During the first half, Lionel Messi was good but Spurs managed to keep him at check with fair ease. But he chose to shift gears in the second half and all the Spurs players could do was to stand and be amazed at the genius of this little man.

Speaking after the match, football pundit Rio Ferdinand perhaps gave the perfect description about Lionel Messi’s performance vs the Lilywhites.

Ferdinand said: “Messi had more space in the second half and that is hard to stop,

“It is unbelievable how he runs.”

“I think we can talk about Tottenham and their efforts later on but you have to marvel at this guy here.

“I feel blessed that I was in this stadium live to be able to watch him. I’ll tell my kids about it tomorrow on the school run.

“This guy – what he does on a football pitch is just ridiculous. It’s like he’s got a remote control in his hand.

“He assesses the situation and says ‘yeah, right’ just plotting the location and ‘I’ll put the ball exactly where I want to put it on a sixpence’.”

Even Mauricio Pochettino saluted the brilliance of Lionel Messi and claimed it was not easy for his team to chase a game against the likes of Messi and Suarez.

“Messi had more space in the second half and that is difficult to stop,” the Spurs manager said.

“It is unbelievable how he runs. Come on, move on, because, in the first half, we conceded in the first minutes. We played with the handicap of conceding after one minute.

“Our players were heroes because they were chasing the game against Messi, Suárez, Coutinho.”
