Barcelona’s financial woes have put the future of Ronald Araujo in doubt and according to Spanish outlet AS(h/t Press Reader), Manchester United have joined Bayern Munich in the race to sign the defender.

Araujo’s contract with Barca expires in 2026 and it has a €1 billion release clause which is very unrealistic. Having said that, if the defender does not sign a new deal then Barcelona will definitely look to offload him in the summer.

Barcelona have already tabled a “final offer” and if the player is not ready to renew then the Blaugrana will reportedly listen to offers. Bayern Munich’s interest in Ronald Araujo is not new and now as per the rumours, Manchester United have already held talks with the player’s representatives and they have offered him a significant pay rise if he chooses a move to Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old has been an ever-present figure in Barcelona’s defence over the previous couple of seasons and this campaign, he’s featured in 35 games across all competitions. However, the club needs funds to bring in fresh recruits so a summer sale is clearly not unrealistic.

Will Ronald Araujo opt to join Man United or will he prefer Germany?

Manchester United are expected to lose Raphael Varane, Evans, Maguire and Victor Lindelof at the end of the season so they will have to bring in at least two new central defenders and someone of Araujo’s calibre will be a great signing for the club.

Back in January, Bayern had offered €75 million for the defender which was turned down by Barcelona and as per Marca, the Bavarians are planning to offer €100 million for him in the summer.

A move to Manchester United will obviously be very lucrative for the South American defender because he’s been offered an improved salary package but Man United might not be in the Champions League next season and that’s something that is going to be a stumbling block for the club.

A player like Ronald Araujo will want to remain in the top tier of European football and if MUFC cannot give him that then the defender will any day choose a move to the Allianz Arena. Also, if Bayern are seriously thinking of paying €100 million for him then Barcelona will also be tempted to send him to Germany.

Manchester United should have the finances to offer a better transfer fee than Bayern Munich but without Champions League football, the Premier League side stands very little chance of landing the Barcelona centre-back.
