Manchester United keeper Sergio Romero has claimed that he will not move out of the club during the summer transfer window despite not getting first-team opportunities last season.
Romero joined Manchester United from Sampdoria in 2015 and since then the Argentine has mostly played second fiddle to the club’s No 1 David de Gea.
Romero’s appearances under Jose Mourinho has mostly be limited to cup competitions which led many to believe that the 31-year-old wanted to move out.
Now though, Romero has made it clear that he wishes to stay at the club until his contract expires.
Romero told TyC Sports: “I’m staying at Manchester United for now,
“Mourinho worked hard for my renewal. I can’t let go of his hand.
“If United wants to sell me, if they have an offer that it’s useful for the club, they will sell me. But I don’t think that would happen.”
A recent knee injury prevented Sergio Romero from making his third World Cup appearance but the 31-year-old claims that his international career is far from over.
Romero said: “I spoke with Jorge, I explained the situation and recovery time. I told him that I didn’t have anything broken. I assured him that I would be available in 10 days,
“Sampaoli and the coaching staff’s time frame is different. They wanted someone who could be there every day and I was taken off the list in four hours.
“My career with the national team hasn’t finished. I’m working towards my return”.
This affection towards Manchester United and Jose Mourinho will definitely come as a huge setback for Arsenal who were reportedly looking at Sergio Romero as one of the options who might replace Petr Cech in the next campaign.
