Matteo Guendouzi has featured heavily for Arsenal during the current campaign as he has started each and every game for the Gunners in the Premier League.
Particularly against Tottenham Hotspur, the youngster was a key figure for Unai Emery’s side and these fine performances for his club had earned him a national team callup for France during the on-going international break.
But speaking about the youngster, France coach Didier Deschamps has urged Unai Emery not to put too much pressure on the midfielder especially after his fine start to the new campaign.
“Do not ask too much, he’s a young player, who is still the Espoirs generation, who plays a lot of matches with Arsenal where there is strong competition,” Deschamps said(as quoted by Four Four Two).
“He’s the modern midfielder, box to box as they say there, with a lot of power and technical quality too. He’s there.
“What I expect from young people is that they bring this freshness, this dynamism.
“He is a very young player but with a very big potential.”
VERDICT:
Matteo Guendouzi does deserve a rest this weekend given that Arsenal will be playing vs Watford – a team who are currently sitting at the bottom of the league table.
But we don’t think Unai Emery will be able to have that luxury because Lucas Torreira picked up a knock while playing for Uruguay during the international break.
Initial reports claim Torreira might not be a 100 per cent for the Watford game meaning the Arsenal boss will have no other option but to name Matteo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka in central midfield vs the Hornets.
While the Frenchman is expected to start next Sunday for the Gunners but if Arsenal can wrap up the match quickly then surely Emery will look to take him off in the second half.
