Rangers FC brought in Steven Davis from Southampton during the January transfer window on a six-month loan spell.
And since then the player has gone on to make 10 league appearances for the Gers making just a single assist.
Recently there has been a lot of speculation regarding the future of the central midfielder with some reports claiming that Rangers are not too keen on keeping the player for the 2019-20 season.
And this was not a big shocker since, Steven Davis took his own sweet time to settle down at Ibrox and during the first few weeks, the 34-year-old looked rusty as he had hardly had any game time during the first half of the season with the Saints.
But now it looks like, Gerrard is clearly impressed with the senior pro and the manager has made it clear the club have every intention of holding onto him for the next campaign.
“I think he will be here next season,” said Gerrard.
“At this moment, we cannot confirm he will be here, but I want a fit and hungry Steven Davis in my squad.”
This means, Rangers are set to activate the buy-out clause for Steven Davis at the end of the season but many experts feel this might be a wrong move from the manager.
Steven Gerrard is obviously looking at the experience of the midfielder and is hoping that all that knowledge would come in handy for the upcoming campaign.
But most people feel, instead of wasting time on an ageing player, Gerrard should focus more on promoting youth at the club.
Having said this though, we do not feel Steven Davis will be a regular feature in case the club choose to hand him a contract at the end of the season. The most he would do is come on as a substitute during the not-so-important games.
