Willian Chelsea
Willian playing for Chelsea

Chelsea will not offer a new deal to Willian which means the 31-year-old winger will be heading to a new club at the end of the season.

The player has made it clear he will have no hesitation in playing for the Blues even after his deal expires in order to help the club during such a crisis period but he will most certainly be joining a new side post that.

And right now, a number of reports are claiming that direct rivals Arsenal are set to be his next destination thanks to defender David Luiz.

Luiz has been a long-term teammate with the Brazilian at Chelsea and last summer he ended up joining the Gunners which is why Arteta might use the central defender in trying to convince Willian to make a move across London and join the Emirates outfit.

Should Lampard stop Willian from joining Arsenal?

Frank Lampard did try and offer the 31-year-old a new deal at Chelsea but as per some rumours, it was a short-term contract while Willian wanted a long-term deal in order to remain at the Bridge.

And this is why we believe, the manager will not be looking to have any further chat with the winger and he will be allowed to move out as a free agent in the summer.

Also, unlike other free agents, Willian has a lot of takers in the market right now with clubs like Spurs and Liverpool wanting to sign him up.

So even if Lampard was to approach him with an improved offer, we do not think he will be too eager to remain at the club beyond the summer.

Also, it’s not like Arsenal are the only favourites to sign him due to David Luiz since Spurs are currently being managed by Jose Mourinho and the pair had shared a fine working relationship in the past at Chelsea.

So it shouldn’t come as a surprise if the winger chooses to snub a move to Arsenal and join the rebuilding project at White Hart Lane simply because of Mourinho.

All said and done, if we were to go solely by the reports, right now it’s Arsenal who are the frontrunners to signing Willian at the end of the 2019-20 season.
