Spurs want Edmond Tapsoba who plays for Bayer Leverkusen

Spurs are reportedly going to make a move for Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba who also happens to be on the radar of Chelsea and Manchester United.

Spurs had tried to sign Tapsoba last summer but in the end, they opted to bring in Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg. However, it seems Ange does not view Romero in his long-term plans which is why the Lilywhites will go back for the Leverkusen central defender.

Manchester United had also tried to land Tapsoba before the 2023/24 season and Erik ten Hag is going to go after him this summer as well. Chelsea are said to be monitoring the centre-back as Poch looks to reshuffle his defensive line. However, if Spurs are serious about signing the Burkina Faso international they will have to battle a few more other clubs because apart from United and Chelsea, teams like PSG and Atletico Madrid have also been linked with him.

Is Edmond Tapsoba a good enough signing for the EPL?

Edmond Tapsoba joined Leverkusen in 2020 and since then, he’s played 164 games for the club across all competitions. His deal expires in 2028 and his current market valuation stands at €40 million.

This season, he’s featured in 18 Bundesliga games for the current league leaders and he’s made 2.2 clearances, 0.6 interceptions and 0.8 tackles every 90 minutes that he’s been on the pitch.

Earlier this month, Bayer beat Bayern Munich in the league and Tapsoba came up with a man-of-the-match performance in that game. Defensively, he made five recovery runs along with two interceptions and one major block plus the icing on the cake was his assist for Frimpong in the 95th minute.

The 25-year-old might not be so strong aerially but he is a great passer of the ball which makes him an asset when building from the back.

He’s excelled in a three-man central defence under Xabi Alonso this season and if Leverkusen can lift the Bundesliga, his stocks are going to skyrocket.

It’s still a question mark if he will be a success in the Premier League or not but Tapsoba has all the attributes to play for a major European club next season. He’s not shown any signs of discontent at his current club but it will be interesting to see what his reaction is when the offers start coming in.

With so many big clubs already interested him in, there’s surely going to be a major transfer battle so Spurs will have to be willing to spend major money on the defender. Leverkusen are in no hurry to offload him which means the German side can very easily quote around €70-80 million.
