Tottenham Hotspur have joined Arsenal and a few other teams in the race to sign Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez, that’s according to journalist Javier Rodríguez Pascual.
Miguel Gutierrez is a Spain U21 international who is a product of the Real Madrid academy. In 2022, the left-back joined Girona for a fee of just €4 million and this season, the defender has impressed with his performances at the Estadi Montilivi. So far, he’s played in 22 league games scoring one and assisting thrice.
Girona were sitting at the top of the La Liga table for the longest time but they have just been dethroned by Real Madrid. The City group club are taking the title fight to Ancelotti’s side but no matter what happens this season, Gutierrez is likely to leave the club in the summer.
The 22-year-old has three years remaining in his contract but with the performances he’s having this campaign, a move to a bigger club is almost inevitable.
Arsenal along with Bayern Munich and a few others are keeping tabs on the left-back and as per the report, Tottenham have also joined the race.
Gutierrez is valued at €20 million so he can turn out to be a reasonable buy next summer but if Manchester City wish to sign him, we doubt if the other suitors will even close.
Manchester City are also scouting the left-back, and given that both City and Girona are under the same group, it’s evident that Pep’s side will naturally receive preference.
While Miguel Gutierrez is likely to leave Girona at the end of this season, he is very much loyal to Real Madrid. The left-back has already rejected an approach from an unnamed Premier League club and Madrid still have a first right of refusal on Gutierrez.
The buy-back clause means whichever club is closest to signing Gutierrez will first have to wait for Madrid’s decision and the way he is developing, the 22-year-old could very easily move back to the Bernabeu.
