Rangers FC lost the first Old Firm Derby of the season which is also their first defeat of the 2018-19 season.

Celtic FC won the game 1-0 courtesy of a goal from midfielder Olivier Ntcham meaning that Steven Gerrard has tasted defeat in the first firm derby that he has taken charge of.

While the Light Blues were outplayed in almost every department on Sunday but the attack leading up the goal has been attached with a fair bit of controversy after many Gers fans believe that their team should have been awarded a foul right before the strike.

Seconds before Ntcham’s goal, Hoops midfielder Tom Rogic was involved in a tussle with Ryan Jack which looked a clear foul with the naked eye.

But the referee for the night Willie Collum chose to ignore it and let the play go on.

But speaking after the game, Steven Gerrard has brought in a completely new angle to the incident after he claimed that the 4th official clearly saw it as a foul and even conveyed it to Collum over the wireless.

Even after repeated shouting on the microphone, the referee chose to ignore it shortly after which the Hoops scored the only goal of the match.

Gerrard said: “For me, it is a foul and it is also a foul for the fourth official. He is shouting down his microphone, ‘foul, foul, foul.’

“The referee in the middle has ignored that advice but for me, it is a blatant foul. He has swept his legs.

“Jacko has done well to get himself between the man and the ball and for me, it is a clear foul.

“I spoke to him [the referee] and he disagreed but when he sees it [again] I think he will change his mind. I have seen it again five times and it is a foul.”

This incident will surely point a lot of fingers at the referee since he blatantly chose to ignore his counterpart’s opinion.

We are not yet sure if the Scottish FA will look into it more seriously and brandish a punishment to referee Willie Collum.
