Rangers FC  had a minor hiccup at the start of the new Scottish Premiership season when they drew their opening encounter against Aberdeen.

But since then the Light Blues have steadied the ship and now sitting third on the league table.

They had another victorious day this weekend when Gerrard’s side picked up a comfortable victory in the Scottish League Cup vs Kilmarnock.

The Gers rode on the back of a wonderful hattrick from Alfredo Morelos and after the match, Steven Gerrard was equally brilliant in tackling questions regarding Celtic FC earlier this week.

Gerrard was interviewed by Robbie Savage on BT Sport during which the Light Blues boss was asked about his thoughts going into the first Old Firm Derby of the new season.

To which, Gerrard said: “I knew you’d ask that! Is Chris Sutton beside you?”

“Celtic have set the standard up here over the last couple of years. They are on the back of two trebles.

“We understand the task and how difficult the challenge will be, especially with the game being at home for them. first.

“But I think the important thing for me is not to be obsessed with Celtic and what’s going on over there. What’s really important for me is trying to sort out this house here, which is Rangers, and trying to make us better, individually and collectively. Let’s try to be competitive.

“I think Celtic have had it their own way up here for too long, up here, and my job is to try and improve Rangers so when we do come up against Celtic and every other challenge, that we’re competitive and we have a shot to win.”

Rangers and Celtic play the first derby of the new season on the second of September and going into the match, the Gers are without a doubt the favourites to pick up all three points.
