League One side Sunderland are keen on signing Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty – according to reports.

Docherty joined Rangers in the January transfer window on a four and a half year contract from Hamilton Academical but the 22-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the Rangers’ first eleven.

During the 2017-18 season, the midfielder played just 11 games in the Scottish League for the Light Blues and remained an unused substitute during both the Europa League games this season.

With players like Ryan Jack and Josh Windass at his disposal, it is being said that new manager Steven Gerrard does not see Greg Docherty as a first-team asset for the upcoming season and is willing to send him out in order to gain exposure.

League One side Sunderland AFC manager Jack Ross is keen to sign the 22-year-old and wants to move quickly as rumours suggest that a series of other League One sides are also interested in his service.

Steven Gerrard is very much open to the idea of sending Greg Docherty out on loan so that the youngster can gain some valuable experience and Sunderland seem to be a perfect fit.

The Black Cats have seen a terrible couple of seasons but will now be pushing to gain promotion to the Championship next season.

And in such a scenario, Greg Docherty will be an almost guaranteed starter under Jack Ross.

Sunderland are expected to make a formal move for the midfielder in the coming few days and if both the teams can agree on the terms then Greg Docherty could be on his way to England by the end of next week.
