Liverpool are set to take on West Ham United during the opener weekend of the Premier League on the 12th of August and up until now, the Hammers were relishing the encounter.

The Reds had a number of players who played in the 2018 World Cup and quite a few of them went a long way in the tournament.

Players like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson were in the England squad which reached the semi-final and then went on to play the third-place play-off against Belgium. While Croatia’s Dejan Lovren played the final against France.

So now all these players have jet-setted off to a holiday and will only be back one week before the start of the new Premier League season.

With just seven odd days to practice before the West Ham United game, there was a lot of doubt whether Alexander-Arnold, Henderson and Lovren would make it to the first eleven.

Now though, the Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that amongst the three players, Alexander-Arnold will report back to training one week earlier.

Klopp said: “With Trent, I have a special agreement,

“He wanted to be in earlier. As he’s very young I said ‘okay, have two weeks holiday and then we’ll speak and see’.

“If you asked Trent he would be good to join us in Evian [July 31st to August 3rd]. But I’m not sure I will do that.”

The manager also added that Jordan Henderson was also eager to return back to pre-season duties as early as possible but the manager was strictly against the idea.

“If you asked Jordan probably not! It was a hard fight to convince him that he needed a holiday,” Klopp added.

“I knew it would happen! On the phone, I said ‘crazy’. Jordan needs a holiday so that means August 5 he will be back.

“Dejan had a party in Croatia and played a day later so he will be back on August 6. That would mean five days training after three weeks holiday.”

This news is surely a setback for West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini who was hoping to test out his new look side against a possibly weakened Liverpool side.
