Last week reports had suggested that League One side Sunderland are interested in signing midfielder Greg Docherty on a season-long loan deal from Rangers FC. And now the Black Cats manager Jack Ross has talked about these rumours.
Docherty joined Rangers in the January transfer window on a four and a half year contract from Hamilton Academical but the 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact in the Rangers’ first eleven.
Steven Gerrard has a number of midfielders in his current squad and he had reportedly told Greg Docherty that he should be ready to move out of Ibrox in order to gain first-team experience.
And for some time it was being believed that the 21-year-old’s next destination was going be the Stadium of Light.
Now though, Sunderland manager Jack Ross has made it clear that his team are not interested in signing Greg Docherty.

Ross told the Herald: “No [he won’t be joining],
“That’s not to say he’s not a good player, but we have other priorities at the moment positionally. We have a squad with no out-and-out strikers,”
These comments from the Black Cats boss is a huge setback for Steven Gerrard given the fact that the Gers manager is desperate to release some players before the start of the new season in order to reduce the club’s wage will.
Greg Docherty played just 11 games in the Scottish League for the Light Blues during the 2017-18 season and the Ibrox outfit has high hopes for him. But the last thing that Steven Gerrard would want to do is to let him stay at the club for the next season and have him rot on the substitutes bench.
