Arsenal finally picked up a win in the English Premier League after the resumption of the 2019-20 season, beating Southampton 2-0 away from home.

The win means Arsenal are once again back to the 9th spot on the league table and not only did the Gunners looked assured while going forward but at the same time, they managed to keep a clean sheet vs the Saints.

But according to Jamie Redknapp, Mikel Arteta should be scurrying to find a dependable and consistent partner to Rob Holding( who was brilliant on Thursday), if Arsenal want to have a steady defensive record.

Redknapp said, as quoted by the Express: “A regular partner might help as well. It’s not easy because he’s [Arteta’s] not sure about the other centre-backs, that’s pretty obvious.

“He mixes and matches. You need partnerships. Sol played with a partner alongside him and that’s how you get better as a team when you’ve got someone on your left-hand side you know you’re going to be playing week-in, week-out with.

“Especially at centre-back, that’s where it’s most vital to get used to somebody, when they’re going to make a mistake, reading situations.

“That’s what Sol[Campbell] did, that’s why he played at the top.”

The likes of David Luiz, Mustafi and Sokratis have all been highly inconsistent so far this season and the only thing Arteta can do right now is hope that his current defenders can hold the fort, especially after the injury to Pablo Mari.

The Gunners will be getting the services of William Saliba at the end of the season and Arteta will be hoping that the young Frenchman will be the solution to all of Arsenal’s defensive woes.
