North London side Arsenal have finally made a crucial call in the transfer race to sign midfielder Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid this summer.

As per ESPN, the Gunners have decided to make a bold move and to go ahead with the transfer despite the 26-year-old having a fairly significant release clause.

The report claims: “Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is considered to be one of Arsenal’s main priorities during the summer transfer window, Mundo Deportivo reports.

“Although this is a transfer that might set them back around €50 million, either in one go or in installments, the Gunners are willing to take that hit, as they know what Partey could add to their squad.

“It isn’t going to be easy, but the biggest and best transfer decisions never are, and Arsenal and Mikel Arteta need to go full steam ahead as they look to rebuild their team in search of Premier League glories past.”

Should Arsenal back off from the Thomas Partey deal?

Thomas Partey still has three years left on his current deal at Atletico and Diego Simeone has no intentions of letting the 26-year-old leave in the summer.

But various reports in Spain have suggested that the player is eager to move to the Premier League in case Arsenal want to sign him for the upcoming season.

And while ESPN claim the Gunners have decided to go ahead with this deal but Mikel Arteta should surely give this one a second thought since he will be working in a very limited transfer budget this time around.

If the club end up spending €50 million on Thomas Partey, the manager will surely struggle to bring him his other reinforcements.

Apart from a defensive midfielder, the Gunners boss needs to bring in a forward and some defenders as well. And we are not sure these signings will be possible if they go ahead and spend so much money on the Atletico Madrid man.
