A series of top Premier League clubs are being constantly linked with Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Kai Havertz but it looks like Chelsea are the one’s who are likely to make the first move.

Apart from the Blues, the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are all keen to land the 20-year-old prodigy and recently, MEN boosted everyone’s hopes by claiming that the German international is ready to step out of the Bundesliga in order to expertise his talents and the English top division could be his next destination.

The exclusive report claimed: “MEN Sport understand Havertz views a move to the Premier League as a very realistic option at the end of the season, with United one of many sides impressed by his recent performances.

“Havertz is currently loving life playing for Bayer Leverkusen and values the trust which they have put in him since his breakthrough four years ago, however, he isn’t fazed about the prospect of moving abroad at such a young age.”

This is great news for all the interested clubs and as per Football London, Chelsea have already set the ball rolling in order to try and sign Kai Havertz.

The report claims: “Chelsea are firmly in the race to sign the youngster, though luring him to Stamford Bridge will be no easy feat, as Leverkusen are not expected to let go easily and the Blues face plenty of competition to land his signature.

“However, the race to sign Havertz is officially on and Chelsea are amongst the runners and riders vying for his signature.”

This is a major setback for the likes of Man City, Man United and Liverpool but we are pretty sure the Blues are not even close to wrapping up the transfer – for a couple of reasons.

The first and the most obvious one is the fact that Leverkusen are expected to quote a massive price for the 20-year-old which could be a bit unsettling for Chelsea, especially after their recent acquisition of Timo Werner.

Bayer’s assistant coach, Marcel Daum had hinted that the Germans will not let Havertz move out on a cheap transfer.

The 33-year-old coach told talkSPORT.com: “The situation with coronavirus is so strange and so complicated that it’s still open that he will leave us.

I don’t know what will happen, but at Bayer he has the right place to develop his strengths and improve. The only thing I know is that Bayer won’t sell him for a cheap fee.”

The second reason why Chelsea are not going to sign the youngster so easily is that we are more than certain the attacking midfielder will want to listen to all the interested parties before he takes a final call on his career.

Also, unlike Werner, Kai Havertz does not have a straight out release clause meaning Leverkusen will not crack so easily.
