Thomas Partey to Arsenal

Arsenal seem to be back in the transfer race to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid – as per the latest updates.

The player’s father had recently claimed the Gunners were in talks with Thomas’ representatives over a possible move to England in the summer but his agents JJ Sports were quick to claim that such information was not true at all.

They wrote in a statement: “Given the information in Thomas’ father’s statements, we want to make it clear that we talk to Thomas’ father every day and claim that all statements related to Thomas’ father are totally false.

“As we said yesterday, we’ve been with Atletico for many years and if had been for money, we would no longer be in Atletico. I hope that before reporting any news that does not fit reality, you first verify it with us.”

Now it looks like his father’s quote was not only genuine but Thomas Partey is also not happy with the new contract which has been offered to him by Atletico Madrid, according to Ghanaian journalist Rahman Osman.

“I do not know the smallest details in the contract submitted by Atletico Madrid,” Osman began. “But the description that I received from my sources stated that it did not meet the aspirations of the player and his team.

“This offer is ‘rubbish’ and therefore the player did not sign it.

“I contacted Thomas’ father and the quotes are real. He said that on the radio but was not authorized to publish those details.”

 Can Arsenal sign Thomas Partey?

This is a really promising sign for Arsenal since Thomas Partey could add some real stability to Arteta’s midfield next season and right now he has a release clause of just €50 million which is well within the reach of the Gunners.

But reports claim Atletico desperately want him to sign the new deal so they can push up this same amount to around €90 million meaning a lot of clubs will automatically fall out of the transfer race.

The midfielder is yet to sign the new deal and if the report from Osman is true then Arsenal are still very in the hunt for the 26-year-old.

While this will be great news for Arteta but at the same time, this makes getting hands-on Thomas Partey even more difficult since Serie A giants Juventus have also shown an inclination towards signing the player in the summer.
