Unai Emery is not the only person to blame after Arsenal’s loss to Leicester City

Arsenal dropped points yet again in the Premier League this weekend and now various reports claim that Unai Emery is going to be sacked by the club management.

The Gunners have not picked up a win in their last four Premier League matches and against the Foxes this past weekend, the away side looked like a really beat up bunch of players.

Neither did the Arsenal forwards have any finesse in attack nor did the defenders know how to stop the likes of Jamie Vardy and James Madison.

So naturally, after the match, abuses are being hurled at Unai Emery due to his poor tactics during the 2-0 loss on Saturday.

But according to Arsenal legend Tony Adams, the manager is not the only person to blame for the club’s poor form as he feels that the problem runs even deeper.

“It’s easy to blame the manager in these situations, although I don’t think he’s done himself a lot of favours with things like the handling of the captaincy situation, for example,” he said on Sky Sports[as reported].

“Against Leicester, he got them organised. They did the best they could.

“It’s one thing getting back, getting defensive and getting your shape, but then you’ve got to go and press and Arsenal didn’t do that.

“You’ve got to go and make contact with the players, but they just sat back. 85 per cent of goals come inside the box and they sat so deep they were sitting with me in the stand.

“There are not [any leaders in the squad]. The recruitment has been very poor for a few years now. It’s difficult if you haven’t got the players.

“The manager must be pulling his hair out because what do you do? We came here expecting a good hiding and we got one. That’s not the mentality to have.

“I don’t think those players go onto the pitch thinking we are going to keep a clean sheet and that’s infectious.

“Defensively we’ve got worse. Koscielny has gone and David Luiz hasn’t helped us.

“It’s easy to blame Emery. He’s got a group of players here that he’s doing his best with and it’s a bigger problem than this coach, it really is.”

Verdict:

Obviously the Arsenal players have not been performing well during the past couple of weeks but given that Unai Emery has had a few transfer windows to sort things out, we can’t really look beyond the manager.

It’s true that the manager can do only that much since it will be the players who will be playing on the pitch but these very same players are selected by the manager and some of Unai Emery’s tactical decisions have constantly raised eyebrows.
