The VAR trails in the Premier League is finally happening.

The technology received rave reviews during the World Cup in Russia this summer and while another league in the world have already been using VAR for some time now, it seems that the Premier League has finally followed suit.

So here are some key questions about the VAR trails in the Premier League:

Which game will be used for the VAR trails in the Premier League?

The game that has been selected for the trails is Newcastle United’s home game against Arsenal on the 15th of September at St James’ Park.

As of now, this is the only game that will be used for the trails though, the FA is planning to test VAR in the Premier League grounds during some of the Carabao and FA Cup ties.

Will this be a full-fledged trail?

Unfortunately no.

This VAR trail in the Premier League is the first of it’s kind hence the governing bodies do not want to take any chances with it. Meaning the game will be played as it is and the VAR will have no impact on the on-field referee’s decision.

Will the technology be used to point out overlooked incidents much like the World Cup?

No.

The VAR trails will have only for monitoring purposes and the VAR officials will have no communication with the on-field officials.

Will the VAR trails in the Premier League happen on spot?

The VAR hub has been set up at Stockley Park, near Heathrow airport in London.

When will the Premier League officially use VAR?

Well, a lot of that depends on the Newcastle and Arsenal match and if that trail is successful then the Premier League intends to officially use it from the start of the 2019/20 season.
