Celtic manager Neil Lennon had tried to sign Victor Wanyama before the start of the 2019-20 season but the deal could not go through and the midfielder had to stay back at Spurs.
And this move has clearly not worked out for the 28-year-old since the player has so far played just 23 minutes in the Premier League and has massively fallen down the pecking order under Mauricio Pochettino.
Victor Wanyama is out of contract at Spurs in 2021 but according to pundit Noel Whelan, Celtic will try and re-sign the player during the January transfer window.
“It looks like Wanyama’s Tottenham career is coming to an end,” Whelan told Football Insider.
“He’s had a lot of injury problems in the last few years and he can’t get in the team.
“No player can be happy not playing. He’ll want to get his career back on track and a move to Celtic on loan makes total sense.
“He knows the club really well, he knows Neil Lennon thinks the world of him and he would be playing regularly. I can see him joining in January, definitely.”
Victor Wanyama played in only 13 league games last season which was indication enough that he would be heading out Spurs during the summer.
But once the move to Celtic had collapsed everyone was certain that Pochettino would try and use him during the current season.
That though has not happened which means there is no major obstacle in him joining Celtic for a second stint.
As per TransferMarkt, Victor Wanyama is currently valued at €15 million but there is no way that Celtic would be ready to pay that much money especially during the middle of the season.
We believe the Bhoys will be willing to pay somewhere around €10 million for the defensive midfielder and we will just have to wait and see whether Daniel Levy agrees to that price.
