West Ham United after Southampton have become the second Premier League club to defer part of their wages – as confirmed by the club’s official website.

Earlier the Saints players decided to defer 10% of their pay for the next three months so that their non-playing staff can be paid in full during this time of crisis and now the Hammers have also followed on their path.

It’s being claimed that Southampton chief executive, Martin Semmens played a very important role in laying down a proper plan and also convincing every player to defer part of their wages.

Apart from this, the club have also confirmed that their manager, Ralph Hasenhüttl, senior coaching staff and board of directors will also defer part of their wages, as confirmed by the Guardian.

Along with deferring of their players’ wages, the Hammers manager David Moyes, vice-Chairman Karren Brady and chief financial officer Andy Mollett will also be taking a 30% reduction.

Captain Mark Noble said: “As players, we have been in constant dialogue with the Club since the situation around COVID-19 emerged and I am proud that our entire squad have made clear their strong desire to play our part in helping to support others through this situation.

“At West Ham United, we are one team and our priority reflects the Club’s aim to help ensure the staff get 100% of their salaries while we are unable to play our matches. We continue to do all we can, collectively and individually, throughout this period for the benefit of those around us, our colleagues, our supporters and our community.”

Liverpool, a couple of days ago, furloughed some of their staff but they had quickly trackback their decision after massive protests from the footballing community.

But now Southampton and West Ham United have clearly shown the path to the other Premier League clubs and now it seems Brighton are in also in discussions with their squad over a wage cut.

But they also intend to return the money back if the season restarts in front of fans and not behind closed doors.

Manchester City too are in talks with their players over a possible wage deferral.
