West Ham United are the favourites to sign Anderlecht defensive midfielder Leander Dendoncker – according to reports.

The Hammers were also linked with the Belgium international during the January transfer window and multiple reports suggested that the youngster will make his move to the London Stadium at the start of the new year.

But that transfer was eventually scrapped by then West Ham manager David Moyes who wanted to sign players like Jonjo Shelvy and Harry Arter.

Moyes’ argument was that he would rather spend money on an established Premier League midfielder rather than sign a lesser known Belgium.

But now that Hammers have a new manager in the form of Manuel Pellegrini, the club seem to have reignited their interest in Leander Dendoncker and are now in pole position to sign the defensive midfielder.

Dendoncker is part of Belgium’s World Cup squad to Russia and any move can only be completed after the tournament in July.

Leander Dendoncker has played over 100 games for Anderlecht and the midfielder is known for his versatility. He has the capability of playing in various position including as an attacking midfielder as well as a centre-back.

Transfermrkt values the 23-year-old at 15 million pounds but as per the reports, the Hammers have to shell out as much as 27 million in order to bag the service of the Belgium International.

If this deal goes through then Leander Dendonckr will become the club’s new record signing overtaking Marko Arnautovic.
